
Brian Danver – Head Coach
Coach Danver enters his eighth season as the head coach at Georgetown Prep. He has coached soccer at GP since 2010 and joined Prep’s Classics Department in August of 2017. Danver was a talented student-athlete in high school and competed in soccer, hockey and tennis. Hockey was his love, and he played for the Washington Little Caps, Reston Raiders, and St. Albans. He was named to the MSHL All-Star team during his senior season. He attended Washington College and was the captain of both the soccer and tennis teams in his junior and senior year. Previously Danver taught Latin and United States History at Mater Dei School and coached their successful hockey team for eight seasons. While at Mater Dei, he earned his Master’s Degree in humanities at Georgetown University. Coach Danver currently teaches Latin and United States History at Georgetown Prep where he lives as a dorm parent with his wife and family.
Coach John- Assistant Varsity Coach
John was born and raised in The State of Hockey, Minnesota. He’s been skating for as long as he’s been able to walk. He played hockey all through high school, and attended an all-male prep high school in Minnesota. He was also a USA hockey referee for eight years, and was an instructor of Robby Glantz’s (skating coach for LA Kings of the NHL) skating camps. John, in his eighth year of coaching at Prep, specializes in the offense and power play. You can also hear John weekday mornings hosting Your Morning Show on Hot 99.5 in DC and syndicated around the country.
Michael McDonald – Assistant Coach
Michael McDonald was born and raised in Olney, MD. He is a former Captain of Georgetown Prep hockey, graduating in 2012. He was a member of the last team to win back to back IAC Championships in 2009 and 2010. Mike went on to play ACHA hockey at Villanova University in Philadelphia. This is Mike’s sixth year coaching at Prep. And being a Prep grad, Mike understands the challenges the players face balancing academic and athletic demands. He is excited to give back to the school that helped shape him as a former player and as a person.
PJ McNamara – Assistant Coach
Coach McNamara grew up in Germantown, Maryland and graduated from Georgetown Prep in 2012. While at GP, he played both ice hockey and baseball. After attending the Hill School for a post-graduate year, Coach McNamara played collegiate hockey at Salve Regina University and was a member of the school’s NCAA runner-up season in 2017-2018. McNamara graduated with a degree in Biology and currently works as a medical device sales representative for Supreme Orthopedic Systems.
