Prep Wins 2025 IAC Championship

Georgetown Prep pulled off a stunning upset, capturing the IAC playoff championship with a 2-0 shutout victory over Bullis on Friday, February 14, 2025. Seeded fourth after a tiebreaker coin flip with St. Albans, the Hoyas defied expectations throughout the tournament.
Their playoff run began with a dominant 8-0 win over St. Stephen’s St. Agnes on Monday, February 10th. Overcash, Barth, McCormick, Hurt, Oeltmann, and Raffo all scored, while Billy Bass earned his first playoff shutout.
This victory propelled them into the semifinals against rival Landon, a team Prep had struggled to defeat in the regular season. After a weather-related postponement, the Hoyas faced the Bears on Thursday, February 13th. Hurt and Oeltmann gave Prep an early 2-0 lead, but Landon fought back to tie the game 2-2 early in the third period. Swann quickly answered with a blue-line goal, and Oeltmann added an insurance goal late in the game, securing a 4-2 win and a spot in the championship game against Bullis.
The championship game, played at 4:15 pm on Valentine’s Day, was a tense, scoreless affair for two periods. Early in the third, McCormick broke the deadlock, giving Prep a 1-0 lead. With just over a minute remaining, Markva sealed the victory with an empty-net goal, making the final score 2-0. Bass was stellar in net, recording his second playoff shutout with 40 saves.

Celebrating the Class of 2025
Washington Capitals Anthem Singer Bob McDonald Visits Georgetown Prep Hockey

On Friday, January 3rd, the Georgetown Prep hockey team had the honor of welcoming a very special guest to their matchup against St. John’s—Bob McDonald, the renowned anthem singer for the Washington Capitals.
Bob McDonald, known for his powerful and stirring renditions of the National Anthem at Capital One Arena, brought his talent and energy to our home rink. His presence added an extra layer of excitement and pride to our game that ended in a tie.
We are incredibly grateful to Bob McDonald for taking the time to join us and for sharing his gift with the Georgetown Prep community. It was a night to remember, both on and off the ice!
Hitting the Ice: Hockey Season is Back!
The wait is over, and the ice is ready. November 11th marks the beginning of tryouts—so lace up, sharpen those skates, and get ready for hockey. Everyone knows that feeling when you’re back on the rink, adrenaline rushing, as you hear that familiar sound of blades cutting through fresh ice. This year, the stakes are higher, and the competition is fiercer.
The first varsity showdown hits the road against Bullis on Friday, November 15th. So, bring your A-game and your spirit as we battle one of our IAC opponents in our first non-league game. Meanwhile, back on home ice, JV will face off against Spalding that same night. Expect high energy, power plays, and hopefully, a whole lot of puck in the net.
It’s time to leave it all on the ice. Game on!

Rivals Prep and Landon Come Together Off the Ice for a Common Cause – #HT40

The evening before the biggest game of the year for both teams, the rivals came together for a dinner in support of the #HT40 foundation that was formed from the tragedy of a teammate and a longtime friend of players from both Prep and Landon. The #HT40 initiative, Shoulder Check, is dedicated to bringing people together through kindness and compassion. To inspire a culture of support through small actions that have a big impact. Making certain no one feels left alone and making kindness a contact sport.
